Postgraduate Programs Offered by the Faculty of Commerce
(Registration and Supervision Systems)
The registration process involves a number of steps according to the internal Faculty by-law approved by the University Council. 1 Master Degree: · Based on the request of its council, the Faculty awards the degree of Master in the commercial sciences (Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, and Insurance and Statistics) according to article 5. § Any person has the right to get a Master degree in the commercial sciences if he or she had a Bachelor or diploma of postgraduate studies in the relevant specialization with at least a grade "Good" from one of the counterpart faculties or institutions of the Egyptian universities (article 7). § The postgraduate student must pass all courses required at the preliminary study stage. Then, the Council of the relevant academic department will decide on the registration of the Master degree after conducting a seminar for the postgraduate student. One or more supervisors will be designated as advisors for each registered Thesis (article 9). § The department of postgraduate studies should contact all other Egyptian Faculties of Commerce to make sure the subject of the research under registration in the faculty has not been registered in any of them, or they have registered any similar subjects. § The research subject, supervisors, and the responses of the counterpart faculties should be reviewed by the committee of postgraduate studies. Based on the recommendations of this committee, the faculty council will decide whether the registration should be approved. The date of the registration is the date of the endorsement made by the Faculty Council. § A written Thesis is submitted for the purpose of discussion and judgment after two complete years starting from the registration date (article 11). § The period of studying the Master degree is not more than three years from the registration date. It is possible to extent this period for a fourth year based on the reports offered by the supervisor (s), as well as the approval of the related department, faculty council, and postgraduate studies council in the university. This extension should finally be approved by the Vice President of the University for PSR. Also, it is possible to extent this period for the fifth year if the university council agrees with the proposal offered by the Vice President and not conflicting with the law of universities organization. § Annual reports should be delivered by the supervisor (s) about the postgraduate students under his or her supervision. These reports should be offered to the Department Councils, Faculty Council, and submitted to the postgraduate studies council in the university (article 39). § The Thesis should be written in Arabic with a summary in English. § The supervisor (s) provides a report about the quality and validity of the Thesis to be ready for the discussion and judgment. § The discussion and judgment Committee consists of the supervisor (s) (i.e., professors or associate professors) with one vote, and membership of two professors or specialists; one of them should be from outside the faculty (article 40). § The discussion and judgment Committee is approved by the Vice-President for PSR after providing the required documents (e.g., The approval of the Faculty Council on the formulation of the discussion and judgment Committee, a copy of the Thesis with the signatures of the supervisors, and the required TOEFL with score not less than 300). § After the above mentioned approval, the Thesis should be ready for the discussion but not before two weeks.
2 Doctorate Degree § The Faculty of Commerce Awards the degree of "Doctor of Philosophy" in the various specializations of the commercial sciences according to the request of its Council (article 12). § The registration for the doctorate degree is available at any time every year. The registration of this degree is completed if the following requirements are met: · A Master Degree from any Faculty of Commerce in the same specialization the postgraduate student intends to register in. · A certificate of passing the exam of the preliminary year courses required for the Ph.D. registration. · A TOEFL certificate with a score of at least 400 from the AMIDEAST, the British Council, or the AUC. · An Approval from the related Academic department. · The same procedures as indicated before with respect to the registration of the Master Degree. · The date of the registration is the date of the approval on the registration made by the Faculty Council. · The Ph.D. student should submit his or her Thesis after at least two calendar years started with the date of the approval made by the Faculty Council. · The period of Ph.D. study is not more than four years started from the registration date.It is possible to extent this period for the fifth year according the supervisor's request (or the request of the supervision committees). Such extension should be approved by the related department Council, Faculty Council, and postgraduate studies Council in the university. It should be also signed by the Vice-President of the university for the PSR. It is also possible to extent the Ph.D. period for the sixth year, but with agreement of the University Council.
